ORR (Oxygen Reduction Reaction) is an essential process in many electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies, including fuel cells and rechargeable metal-air batteries.
Only high-cost platinum-based catalysts have shown enough activity and durability for practical purposes in acidic solutions until now.
RuC2N focused on designing improved activity ORR catalysts, by combination of organic and non-precious metal e.g., Fe. Some strategies that have been envisioned to achieve high activity and durability by encapsulation the metal in the nitrogen doped carbon layers. In our system, the active metal core is not in direct contact with the electrochemical environment.
